　　在報(bào)館任職的驃叔（董驃 飾）因?yàn)楣ぷ鞯年P(guān)系帶著全家到加拿大工作。一家五口都全身心投入新環(huán)境新生活中，驃叔卻因得罪上司被解雇了。由于大女兒、二女兒（李麗珍 飾）已開始了學(xué)業(yè)，他唯有帶著妻子驃嬸（沈殿霞 飾）與最小的女兒回到香港繼續(xù)生活，生活卻比以前更艱難了。驃嬸無(wú)意中發(fā)現(xiàn)了一張加拿大的頭獎(jiǎng)彩票，獎(jiǎng)金是兩千萬(wàn)加幣。　　由于不夠錢到加國(guó)，驃叔硬著頭皮向舊上司借。同樣受到經(jīng)濟(jì)危機(jī)的上司設(shè)法要奪取驃叔的彩票。驃叔一家頑強(qiáng)對(duì)抗，保住了彩票，卻無(wú)法在領(lǐng)獎(jiǎng)時(shí)限截止前趕到。　　一家人傷心流淚，悲傷之中發(fā)現(xiàn)時(shí)間上出現(xiàn)了時(shí)差，領(lǐng)獎(jiǎng)的時(shí)間還沒(méi)截止。

　　劉雅歷（林子祥 飾）是一名廣告公司高層，但感情生活并不如意——女友碧姬（關(guān)之琳 飾）與他分手了。本來(lái)就沉默寡言的雅歷更加孤寂傷痛了，生活依舊刻板平凡。　　后來(lái)他在一個(gè)合唱團(tuán)里認(rèn)識(shí)了一位極有天分的女孩巫慧敏（周慧敏 飾），本來(lái)打算對(duì)她多加照顧培訓(xùn)，卻遭到慧敏母親朱麗娥（鄭裕玲 飾）的不滿，以為雅歷對(duì)自己年輕的女兒動(dòng)了歪念，兩人也因此成為了斗氣冤家。　　經(jīng)多次的交往之后，朱麗娥才發(fā)現(xiàn)自己誤會(huì)了雅歷，便對(duì)他完全改觀了，有困難的時(shí)候麗娥也主動(dòng)找雅歷幫忙。麗娥本來(lái)就是個(gè)離婚婦人，遇到了同樣感情空虛的雅歷，兩人之間很快便滋長(zhǎng)了愛情。這時(shí)，雅歷的前女友碧姬卻回來(lái)要求復(fù)合……

1939年繁昌保衛(wèi)戰(zhàn)，新四軍排長(zhǎng)朱振率隊(duì)護(hù)送握有日軍南京暴行證據(jù)與作戰(zhàn)計(jì)劃的記者陸瑛。遭日軍圍追堵截，隊(duì)員接連犧牲，歷經(jīng)雪原伏擊、山洞激戰(zhàn)等生死考驗(yàn)，最終朱振殉國(guó)，陸瑛成功送證，助新四軍獲勝，日軍罪行曝光。
